Fall’s early arrival in Calgary has me craving all things warm and cozy. While this time of year does put a little extra pep in my step – conditioning from school days I’m sure – the early chill and shorter days, have re-invigorated my love of reading in my downtime.
When I first delved into the world of interiors – professionally – I struggled with what to call myself. I hesitated to call myself a designer as I’m not formally trained and decorator didn’t quite feel right. It’s only been in the last few months that I’ve come up a title – Stylist. I style spaces. From finishes to furnishing to accessories, I style. I’m an interior stylist.
There are only a few things I love more than brunch – my family and friends, design, travel … but then, it’s definitely brunch. I’ve often joked that if I do ever get married, I’ll serve brunch at the reception!
Why the intense love for Brunch? It always feels a bit classy and special – the bubbles probably have something to do with that 😉 The food options are literally doubled – breakfast and lunch to choose from, depending on the mood. And it usually lingers into the early afternoon. Rarely is anyone ever in a hurry to leave.
My favourite part of the design process is when all the major pieces – surfaces, furnishings and textiles are in and I get to style the space for the client reveal or a photo shoot. It’s when the whole vision comes together – little elements that on their own may appear insignificant brought together to tell a story. Because, design after all is in the details.
This post has been on the back burner for the last six months! I meant to share it shortly after my living room reveal. But every time I thought about posting it something else came up. So a couple months ago, I cut myself some slack and decided the new year would be the perfect time to share. Since it’s a time when many of us are committing to our goals, things like working better, staying focused, and nurturing creativity, all while staying more organized. I thought my office reveal would be perfect for January and perhaps inspire you to create a little creative sanctuary of your own.

I’m not sure why, but it seems that with the flip of the calendar, comes a whole new set of trends. Trends in fashion, food and of course home decor. While I’m not one to follow design trends, favoring instead to create spaces that are classic and timeless – the kind that allow my clients to grow and adapt. More often than not, what looks best in your home is what feels best to your soul. It is hard not to be curious about what’s trending. After all trends are a great way to see what’s new and perhaps discover something you didn’t know existed. So here are some of my favorite 2018 Interior Design Trends.
The festive season is upon us – cue the jubilation and glee! Without sounding too cliche, it really is the most wonderful time of year. And even though the snow has disappeared in Calgary (for the time being), I’m not going to let that dampen my spirit. The decorations are out, the Pentatonix Christmas album is on repeat and I’ve baked my first batch of Christmas cookies!
I realize the actual line is ‘magic mirror on the wall ….’ but it didn’t have the same effect as the title for this post. So, mirror, mirror on the wall it is. Now that I’ve cleared that up, any guesses what today’s post is about? 😉 That’s right – mirrors! They are one of the most used tools in a designers toolbox. Mirrors can help create the illusion of more space, brighten a room, and add impact and interest for a fraction of the cost of art.
