2021 Colours of the Year

There are a few things that always mark the start of a new year … a fresh day timer, new set of goals and a new selection of colours of the year.  While I can’t say my design decisions are overly impacted by the colour announcements, I do love seeing what everyone is forecasting.  The chosen colours are often reflective of the what we’ve experienced in the previous year and the hope for the future.  After a year like 2020, I think the selections for 2021 are especially hopeful and inspiring. Pantone Colour of the Year 2018

Every year in December, Pantone, the world-wide authority on colour announces the next years colour of the year. And every year it’s met with mixed reactions. The pantone colour of the year 2018 was no different – Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple, was met with surprise, excitement and in some cases passionate disapproval.

A few weeks ago Pantone announced it’s Colour of the Year for 2017, Greenery, to mixed reviews.  What I love about the colour of the year announcement is the incredible thought that goes behind each year’s choice and how it opens us to consider colours we would have written off.  I must admit when I first saw this year’s choice, I thought there was no way I could see myself incorporating it into a space, but as the colour has started to emerge in fashion and home decor, I have to say I’m warming up to it.
